倪匡,寧波人,一九三五年上海出生,六十年代抵達香港,在報館工作,稍後專業替報章雜誌撰稿,擅長寫武俠小說及科學幻想小說(筆名衞斯理)。
早期小說如「六指琴魔」、「一劍情深」、「女黑俠木蘭花」等,均被改編成電影。
倪匡第一部電影劇本是一九六七年的《獨臂刀》,張徹導演,自此兩人便長期合作。
《獨臂刀》之後,倪匡成爲邵氏公司主力編劇,當時(六十年代末,七十年代初)武俠片流行,邵氏大量生產,每年出品三十餘部,大部份由倪匡編寫。
他同時亦爲嘉禾公司及港台獨立製片編劇。著名的作品包括與張徹合作的《報仇》、《獨臂刀》、《金燕子》、《鐵手無情》、《馬永貞》、《仇連環》、《刺馬》和《洪拳小子》;與劉家良合作的《神打》、《陸阿采與黃飛鴻》、《洪熙官》、《少林三十六房》和《爛頭何》。李小龍的《唐山大兄》和《精武門》其實亦是由他編寫。到現在爲止,由他所編的劇本相信不下於三百個。還有以別名或不列名字的劇本。
在國語片編劇來說,倪匡是港台電影產量最多的一位。

I Kuang was born in Shanghai, 1935. His family came from Ningbo.
He moved to Hong Kong in the 1960s, and first worked for a newspaper. He soon turned to writing martial arts novels and science-fiction, and his fiction was serialised in several newspapers and magazines. Most of his early novels (such as The Six-Fingered Lord of the Lute, the Violet Mansion and The Dark Heroine Mu Lanhua) were subsequently filmed.
His first script directly for the cinema was The One-Armed Swordsman, directed by Chang Cheh in 1967. This film marked the beginning of a long collaboration with Chang, which has continued to the present. He went on to become the leading writer for Shaw Brothers. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Shaws were making some thirty kung-fu films a year, and most of them were from I Kuang’s scripts.
At the same time, he wrote screenplays for Golden Harvest, and for numerous independent production companies, both in Hong Kong and in Taiwan. Important films made from his scripts include The One-Armed Swordsman (1967), Golden Swallow (1968), The invisible Fist (1969), Vengeance (1970), The Boxer from Shantung (1972), Man of Iron (1972), The Blood Brothers (1973) and Disciples of Shaolin (1975) – all directed or co-directed by Chang Cheh; The Spiritual Boxer (1975), The Challenge of the Masters (1976), Executioners From Shaolin (1977), The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) and Dirty Ho – all directed by Liu Chia-Liang; and the two Bruce Lee films directed by Lo Wei The Big Boss (1971) and Fist of Fury (1972).
He was probably written more than 300 films scripts to date under his own name, not counting those written pseudonymously or anonymously. He is undoubtedly the most prolific writer at work in the film industries of Hong Kong and Taiwan.
